HOME > Kaiho News > They hate Japan, love Japan
2010.03.27
There is a saying in my language that goes like: "a boat that leaves the harbor is replaced by another". That's how I see the Japanese market. When you think that so many investors are leaving to go to horizons where they hope to find a brighter and more profitable future, some others are still seeing the Japanese market as the place to sell.
It is true that the aging society and the economy deflation are but appealing in the capitalist world we live in, but I believe that Japan hasn't lost all of its charms yet.
Investors tend to run to growing markets such as China or India as we can see. However, I still believe that if Japan could get back to its feet from this world economy crisis and stay stable for a while some progress will be seen in the near future. That means also opening up some more to the foreign world and being more adventurous in taking risks.
In this article foreign medicine companies and worldwide retailers are mentioned as the investors who are interested in the country of the Rising Sun. If I was to stress on one shortcoming that I see in the Japanese business market, it will be its perfectionism. That explains why it has taken so much time for foreign pharmaceuticals companies to be welcomed in the medicine market. Those businesses have had a lot of trouble penetrating the Japanese market due to strict regulations. It is a pleasure to see that it is changing and that Japan is being more welcoming. Personally I have become fonder of Japan the day I went to Forever21 and H&M in Harajuku because for me it meant that I didn't have to wait for my next trip USA to get a pair of jeans my size. I guess investors do know what they are doing after all.
